Abstract: The author analyzes how the field of possessive meanings can cross with the field of meanings of definiteness in the Church Slavonic text of Uspensky codex of the 12- 13th centuries. The issue whether the possessive meaning can have any influence on the availability or absence of short / long forms concerning adjectives is also considered in the article. The cases of the so-called attributive possessiveness (formally expressed by such noun determinants as possessive pronouns and adjectives, nouns in the genitive and dative cases), when the determined noun has one more determinant - an adjective, are investigated. The author traces a precise connection between the activities of posses¬siveness and the short form of the adjective, which accompanies a non-possessive noun. In case possessiveness is expressed (included) in the lexical meaning of an adjective, that is the adjective designates the possessor (the author means possessive adjectives and adjectives with the suffix -bCK-), the adjective has the long form as a rule. The occurrence of the short form of an adjective is related to the loss or weakening of the possessive meaning
