The current environmental situation in the world is increasingly demanding public attention and activity. Ecological consciousness, in other words, environmental ethics, is a environment friendly existence and harmony, which merged with a harmonious relationship with nature. Further development of human life depends not only on technological evolution, but also on other operating environment factors: cultural, economic, environmental and social. Textile technology education during technology education classes can help students learn to apply the knowledge about the consumer culture, to get acquainted with non-traditional materials and secondary raw materials or rare in the traditional textile techniques. Purpose of research is to analyze the pupils' education of environmental awareness during the textile technology lessons. Objectives of research are to analyze the literature on the subject, learn how pupils perceive the concept of environmental awareness, examine the use of cultural knowledge for application during the textile lessons and explore pupils' and teachers' opinions about traditional textile techniques in raising environmental awareness. Research was based on the comparative method of a survey. Scientific literature was examined, in addition an anonymous questionnaire consisting of Vilnius 5th, 6th form pupils, studying textile techniques was applied. Also, questionnaires for teachers in Vilniaus, Anykščių, Nemejio ir Debeikių schools were created. Analysis of the literature showed that most scientists believe that the formation of human moral principles have an impact on the community, but not be limited to a circle of mutual relations, it is necessary to enable human interaction with nature.
The modern approach to nature must be directed to the association of human morality and principles of development. The research revealed that the pupils link ecology with preservation of nature (5th form pupils - 51 percent, 6th form pupils - 64 percent). This is due to the fact that the majority of pupils first learn about ecology during the lessons of "Nature and Man" (5th form pupils - 65 percent, 6th form pupils - 39 percent). The results showed that pupils see opportunities in applying the knowledge of consumption culture in a prudent use of various substances (5th form pupils - 49 percent, 6th form pupils - 42 percent), preservation and storage of items (5th form pupils - 34 percent, 6th form pupils - 31 percent) and reuse of different materials' leftovers from completed projects. These responses indicate that teaching of consumption culture during technology lessons can help foster responsibility among pupils, creativity and initiative. The analysis of respondents' opinions about traditional textile techniques to help raise environmental awareness showed that almost a third (28 percent) 5th form pupils believes that it is the embroidery help raise environmental awareness. 6th form pupils think differently, more a quarter of respondents (26 percent) stated that knitting helps the development of ecological values. Teachers' responses show a completely different picture to pupils' as two-fifths of respondents (40 percent) of teachers believe that the weaving of textile machinery is the best tool for raising environmental awareness. Such a difference in the distribution of respondents' answers indicate that the ecological education within the textile program may not be clearly seen, as each of the textile techniques may be examined from different points of view (using traditional materials or using non-traditional materials for this technique).
The subject of technologies is closely connected with folk art. During the lessons we can foster the values of Lithuanian art. If we want to keep folk art traditions we need to known them, to creatively intercept folk art technologies, forms, ornaments colors and create new ornaments which can be used with great versatility in different topics connected with the subject of technologies. So as to be encouraged ornamental motives in their artwork, students need to be given knowledge about the meaning of the artwork, its compositional features, distinctive colors and application nowadays. Ornaments used manufactured articles foster the student's creativity, a sence of aesthetic beauty and maintain the connection between the past and the present.
