During the lessons of technologies, the students create different items using the Lithuanian folk ornaments, but the research shows that the main source of this knowledge about the folk-art is not the lessons of technologies, but the exhibitions students have visited and the books they have read. Thereby, both the teachers and the students of technologies understand the importance of fostering the Lithuanian folk traditions and stand for the teaching of Lithuanian folk decorative elements during the lessons of technologies.
One of the criteria defining ethnic as well as national identity of any group of people is its cultural distinction. In the comprehensive schools of Lithuania a special significance is attached to the folk-art as a feature that embodies national identity and cultural distinction. A teacher leaning on his/her moral values and knowledge can him/herself choose nurturance forms of the folk-art and the plane of its use. The purpose of this research is to analyze the nurturance of Lithuanian folk ornamentation through technological education. The goals are the following: to disclose the value-system of the technology teachers concerning nurturance of the Lithuanian folk ornamentation and to explore the levels of the use of ornament in the technological education. In order to find out about the nurturance of the Lithuanian ornamentation in the technological education, a statistical research of the technology teachers and students was planned. The research was implemented in 2008; it included 78 teachers and 153 students of technologies. Most of them came from Panevezys city and region, some of them represented other Lithuanian cities. The research showed that the Lithuanian folk ornamentation is nurtured during the process of technological education and in the after-school activities. The teachers view the fostering of the folk ornamentation positively. During the process of introduction to ornamentation, the Lithuanian folk ornamentation is given the priority; when teaching the traditional ornaments, more teachers choose the interpretative plane of their use in order to stimulate creativity. The research results of the students' position showed that many of them have a positive attitude towards fostering of the Lithuanian folk traditions. They are able to identify national decorative elements and symbols, to distinguish them from the traditional ornaments of other nations or periods.
