Straipsnyje aptariama Visuotinės istorijos katedros dėstytojų mokslinių tyrinėjimų temos ir skelbti moksliniai darbai. Atkreipiamas dėmesys, kad minimu laikotarpiu formuojasi nauja mokslinė tematika - Visuotinė istorija Lietuvos kultūroje, kuri išsirutuliojo katedros dėstytojams lituanizavus dėstomus kursus. Atlikti tyrimai šioje srityje rodo rimtą perspektyvą. Jų pagrindu numatomas leisti naujas tęstinis leidinys „Historia Universalis in Lithuania" turėtų suaktyvinti visuotinės istorijos raiškos Lietuvoje tyrimus. Be to, Visuotinės istorijos katedros darbuotojai bando telkti ir kitų Lietuvos universitetų dėstytojus, suinteresuotus tokio pobūdžio tyrinėjimais. Vis labiau tuo klausimu mėginama sudominti studentus. Visuotinės istorijos raiškos Lietuvoje, kaip mentaliteto istorijos, problema svarbi ne tik siekiant nuodugniau suvokti Lietuvos kultūros istoriją, bet ir istorijos edukaciją, kuriant lietuvišką visuotinę istoriją.
Academic works executed in this field have revealed prospects thereof. Five conferences have been organised. Scientists working for other Lithuanian universities are invited to join the forces. Lecturers are trying to get students become interested in the issue, and recommend writing papers on the themes concerned. We may soon expect some bachelor thesis on the topic, and special student conferences, publications in periodic press, as well as academic works. A new continued publication Historia Universalis in Lithuania is under development.
People working for the Department of Universal History (there were 14 lecturers and 7.5 establishment in 2004, 12 lecturers and 6.75 establishment in 2006) pay most of their attention to pedagogical activities with students, training further teachers of history - Lithuanian and European citizens. Extensive workload of lecturers working for the department (1 establishment equals to 1,000 hours of work a year) and intense improvement of programs of bachelor and master studies, as well as development of new programs that is currently taking place is a serious obstacle preventing the lecturers from paying more attention to their academic activities. All lecturers at the department have their topics for academic studies and, to the possible extent, publish their academic production that supplements Lithuanian bibliography. In 2000 to 2006, employees of the department were authors of 7 monographs and co-authors of 2 monographs; co-authors of two textbooks for school and 14 teaching facilities for students and pupils; they announced 22 academic articles in the publications included into the list approved by the Department of Science and Studies under the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Lithuania, as well as 46 academic articles in other publications (including foreign ones); 10 reports have been read at conferences abroad and 51 reports - in Lithuania; 43 publicist articles in periodic press have been announced. Efforts have been put for a long time to join studies of lecturers into a more common topic Relations of Lithuania with foreign countries from the foretime. A new academic topic is in the process of formation within the period concerned; it conforms to the terms that are new for Lithuania - Universal history in Lithuanian culture. The topic has been developed as a result of the process of Lithuanisation of the courses taught by lecturers of the department.
