The problems of future music educators’ training and the education of their subject competencies are an integral part of the entire Lithuanian teacher training system and its reorganization. Project activities of trainee teachers through the development of musical educational projects is one of the most important subject competencies components in the future music teachers’ professional and their educational practice. The aim of this article is to diagnose the peculiarities of future music educator’s project activities in university studies. In order to realize this aim the following research methods were used: analytical study of literature sources, questionnaires, and qualitative content analysis. The research was caried out in 2006–2007. 4 teachers and 28 trainee teachers of Vilnius Pedagogical University participated in the research. The results of the qualitative content analysis as an outcome of qualitative diagnostics revealed: 1) positive attitudes of students and university teachers towards project activities; 2) the degree of trainee terachers’ readiness to take part in project activities; 3) positive changes in students relating to their project activities; 4) prospects and educational possibilities to get engage into project activities.
