Abstract: The researchers of Judita Vaičiūnaitė creative works long time ago have been interested in the interlextual aspects of her creative works since long ago. (They have been mentioned by Antanas Masionis, Gintarė Bernotienė and others). This article deals with the less analysed aspect - literary intertextuality. The author of the article was following the medthodical suggestions, given in Irina Melnikova's study Intertextuality: it's Theory and Practice. In the study, mentioned above, the colour is considered to be one of the possibilities to show the intertexlual context. For the analysis of intertextuality the author has chosen the opposition of the black and red colours and is striving to show it's functioning in Judita Vaičiūnaitė's lyrics in the form of literary and cultural quotations allying with different texts. Two poems of similar structure: "Red lily" (1972) and "Gladiators' flower" (1976), written in the 70-ies, are being analysed in this article and for literary intertexts are being pursued. The meaning of the first poem has been formed by Stendhal's novel The Red and The Black and the meaning of the second poem - by ancient legend about the origin of gladiators. Both texts are related to the ancient cultural intertext - the language of the flowers, which was popular at the time of sentimentalism and romanticism. While analyzing the poems the author of the article is trying to show the functioning of the opposition of the black and red colors and the field of meanings created by them
