Abstract: The article discusses Vanda Juknaite's work of nonfiction Giving Oneself Away. In One's Voice which deals with man's right to life, to a dignified existence. The book is based on the author's experience of working with street children, and this is one of the most important dimensions of the text. The other, no less important, is the negative attitude of public organizations and State institutions toward freely accepting responsibility for aiding helpless children who find themselves living in the street
