Abstract: According to statistical data of the United Nations (2016), Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia are now officially classified as Northern European countries. Founded 20 years ago, the Nordic Network for Music Education brings together all those concerned with music education across this region to share knowledge and experience, to strengthen our reflections, and in such a way, to contribute to its development. The Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences has been involved in the network since 2009. As the sociocultural context of educational systems in the Baltic and Nordic countries differs, it is important to highlight insights into distinctive features of music education research and practice in Lithuania and influences from other countries. The purpose of this chapter is to reveal the most important changes in music teacher education in Lithuania (with a focus on Lithuanian University of Educational Sciences) in relation to other countries over the past two decades. The chapter also aims to analyze what experience in music teacher education has been accumulated, to evaluate the current situation, and identify how we are significantly improving our knowledge of music teacher education. Generalizing from previous research, as well as the author's direct experience as a music teacher educator over the past 20 years, arguments in this chapter are based on both scientific sources and document analysis
