Research was carried out in 2017 at private intensive farm located in Panevėžys district (Žižmiai village). Main research goal was to evaluate the nutrient balance as well as to estimate the organic matter composition in intensive farming plots (spring barley) and in sustainable farming areas (perennial meadow). It was found that soils in farm in evaluated agrocenoses were of different nutrient saturation. In mineral soil up to 30 cm in depth the concentration of nitrogen in meadow was greater by 50 % than concentration in spring barley. However, there was no significant difference in concentrations of mobile phosphorus and potassium. Average organic carbon concentration was three times greater in perennial meadow fields. The root biomass in spring barley was six times lower than biomass in perennial meadow.
