The experiments were carried out in 2016-2017 at the Experimental Station of Aleksandras Stulginskis University. Winter rape grown in a carbonated, shallow, gleyic luvisol (Calc(ar)i-Epihypogleyic Luvisol) (LVg-w-cc). The aim of the field experiment was conducted to determine the influences of direct sowing and reduced tillage on the winter rape crop. During the experiment was growing winter rape variety „MERSEDES“. The experiment showed that direct sowing to unprocessed soil significantly reduced the germination of winter rape and crop density from 3-1.6 times and 10-1.3 times in the germination day. After the vegetation was renewed by applying direct sowing, the winter rape seedlings remained almost the same as in intensive ploughed fields, while the amount of winter rape seedlings was 1.1 times higher before harvesting compared to coventional ploughing. Direct sowing to unprocessed soil increased the yield of winter rape by 1.2 times compared to conventional ploughing. All methods of cultivation also increased the yield of winter rape. The winter rape yields depended on crop density during vegetation.
