Wood fuel is one of the widely used in Lithuania biofuel types; however, the country also has high potential to use crumbly peat as one of fuel sources. Peat resources in Lithuania composed more than 500 million tons. It is forecasted that in the nearest future peat production volume shall be increased from 40 thousand tons till 340 thousand tons. In the recent times, peat, due to compa-ratively higher emissions and ash content (4-6 %), is a not widely used fuel type in the country. Aiming to expand usage volumes of peat as fuel, it is purposeful to prepare peat mixtures with other biofuel types; firstly, it is useful to mix peat with chopped wood that has high calorific value. It has been determined that, using mixture of wood and peat, boilers do not wear out so quickly; their exploitation time increases since burning process gets better quality. Many boilers that are a-dapted to usage of chopped wood, and they may effectively operate with wood and peat mixture. As it has been determined with experiments, during preparation of qualitative mixture, the following physical-mechanical characteristics of chopped wood and peat affect uniformity of the mixture: poured volume, fractional composition, natural slope angle and angle of collapse. It has been determined that it is rational to burn peat in biofuel boilers mixing them with wood chips in such mixtures, when quantity of peat makes 50 %.
