Abstract: The objective of this study is to explore the possibilities of biogas production from mechani-cally sorted municipal solid waste (MSW). The experimental study was carried out by researching taken samples of MSW by a MSW bio-refinery laboratory stand. Researched MSW consisted of 45.5 % dry matter, in which organic material amounted 69 %. From one kilogram of waste 45.3 l of biogas was extracted, where the average methane concentration was 52.2 %. Energy potential of MSW reached 834 kJ/kg
