Abstract: 150 meters of territory surrounding UAB „Searimner“ and UAB „Kriūkų baldai“ was examined using lichenindication method. During the examination selected trees were analyzed at a distance of 50, 100 and 150 meters from the examination object. An average of 20 trees were examined at every distance point, alltogether 120 trees were analyzed. Trees were selected taking into account the spread of different types of trees growing in the surrounding area. Both the count of different kinds of epiphytic lichen and their coverage in percents were observed on selected trees to calculate index of poleotolerance (PI) for every tree. 17 different kinds of lichen were identified on both grounds of examination: 5 fruticose, 8 foliose and 4 crustose. 14 kinds of lichen were found in the territory surrounding UAB „Searimner“ and 15 kinds in the territory of UAB „Kriūkių baldai“. The abundance of epiphytic lichen was calculated by determining the mean coverage of all types of lichen in different examination zones. The average percent of epiphytic lichen coverage in the territory surrounding UAB „Searimner“ was 24,3 % and in the territory of UAB „Kriūkių baldai“ - 27.6%. Lichenindication method with respect to the degree of poleotolerance index showed that 67 % of UAB „Searimner“ territory can be ascribed to low pollution zone and 33 % - to average pollution zone. All of UAB „Kriūkių baldai“ territory falls into low pollution zone according to PI, which does not exceed 5,5. Territories further away from the source of pollution have better air quality
