An xperimental research was conducted on a four stroke, four cylinder Volkswagen 1.8 1 Otto engine and the results obtained are examined in this article. The test results show that when run-metfayl alcohol and gasoline blend M15the engine effective power increased from 3 % to 60 % opened throttle-valve position and 1500 rpm speed. The brake specific fuel consumption was from 4 % to 21 % higher when running on petrol - methanol blend B15 at all speeds bum load, and from 7 % to 16 % higher at the maximum load. The higher is the amount of methyl alcohol in the petroleum blend the lower is emission of unburned hydrocarbons HC at 2500 rpm speed. One can operate the Otto engines with methanol and petrol blends M15 because the effective power of the engine reduces negligibly whereas the amount of carbon monoxides CO r ces from 8.1 % to 98 %. When running on methanol and petrol blend M15, the HC emissior twice as much lower compared to normal petroleum engine running at 2500 rpm speed.
