Employee conduct can have a decisive impact on an organization‘s success. Conduct can be based on internal (individual level) and external (organizational level) reasoning which determines the direction of human activity. Key questions that will be investigated here include what might motivate employees to work, what kind of work organization and management methods should be used to stimulate employees’ interest in work? In order to answer these questions empirical research has been conducted that has involved employees and managers from three organizations. It has been found that the attitudes of employees and managers towards applicable means of motivation differ significantly. A number of employees are dissatisfied with not only monetary incentives but also with normative incentives. Managers believe that employees are cared for, that efforts have been made to listen to employees’ concerns and to ensure suitable working conditions in the organizations studied. Following summaries of employee motivation assessment according to manager and employee approaches some suggestions are outlined for improving systems of motivation and for better organizing their implementationen
