In Lithuania there are 3 types of naturally occurred conifer species: Pinus silvestris, Picea abies and Juniperus communis. Norway spruce and Scots pine forests containing 56.3% of country forest area, thus, juniper as undergrowth representative is not fully examined. Juniperus communis is known as slow growing with lifetime up to 2 thousand years representing an extreme sensitiveness to air pollution and phytoncides derived. In addition, it is exclusive for the forming fruits and well known as medicine plant. As it is identified in Lithuania, natural juniper formation is defined at the slopes of Nemunas river near Sekionys, Virsuziglis, Dubakalnis as well as in Dzukija and Zemaitija regions, but there are no detailed characteristics on natural juniper forests displayed.
