Replacement of fossil diesel fuel by biodiesel fuel is regulated by numerous EU normative documents, main purpose being the reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases. At the same time, biodiesel usage helps to solve other of the environmental problems - rational waste utilization. Less than 30 % of fatty wastes in Lithuania are utilizing in a centralized way by incineration. But such way of utilization is not rational, because energy is not recovered and the environment is polluted by exhaust emissions. Technological aspects of waste fat usage for fatty acid methyl esters production were investigated during the earlier stages of the research. However biodiesel, produced using such kind of raw materials does not meet the requirements ofLSTEN 14214 (e.g. cold filter plugging point (CFPP), oxidation stability, iodine number, etc.). Such kind of diesel can not be use for fuelling, therefore the main aim of the current research is to investigate the possible ways of improvement of biodiesel fuel quality according to the requirements of standard. The influence of winterization parameters on the separation of methyl esters of saturated fatty acids and iodine number has been determined.
