Abstract: Changes in economic, cultural and political situation in Lithuania have led to changes in societal needs and approach towards qualification of the specialists. Good knowledge of the general Lithuanian and especially Lithuanian for specific purposes is increasingly becoming a value, an indicator of professionalism. Thereafter, teaching of the Lithuanian for specific purposes is becoming one of the key components of the humanitarian development of the students at higher educational institutions. The study focuses on the realities and perspectives of the teaching Lithuanian for specific purposes at Lithuanian University of Agriculture, the necessity of the subject, its influence on academic and linguistic environment. Based on the research results needs analysis was performed, the possibility to learn Lithuanian for specific purposes syllabi, advantages and disadvantages of teaching methods were evaluated
