The paper provides data about self-assessment of health of first-year students of the Lithuanian University of Agriculture and the consumption rate of addictive substances - tobacco, alcohol beverages and medicaments - among students. 169 girls and 257 boys participated in the research. Boys evaluated their health better than girls (p < 0,008): 9 % and 6 % of male and female respondents respectively evaluated their health as excellent, 54 % and 40 % - as good, 29 % and 36 % - as satisfactory, 6 % and 15 % - as not entirely good and 2 % and 3 % respectively - as bad. Boys consumed alcohol beverages more frequently than girls (p < 0.001). The percentage of boys consuming alcohol only several times per year or abstaining from alcohol amounted to 38 %, that of girls - to 48 %. Boys smoked more frequently than girls (p < 0.05) however girls used medicaments more frequently than boys (p< 0.001).
