This paper presents a review of the activity of dairying cooperative’s union of ‘Pienocentras‘, as one of the most successful cooperative systems in Lithuania, as well as the methods and principles of its formation and functioning. It also describes the impact of vertical co-operation on making dairying to become one of the most growth industries of Lithuanian agriculture. In June 1940, after the Soviet government was established in Lithuania, Sovietisation of agriculture, he was forced to work on deteriorating political and economical conditions. Degradation of “Pienocentras” continued during occupation of Lithuania by Nazy Germany in 1941-1944 years. The war destroyed the majority of ‘Pienocentras’ companies and dissipated the employees. The destructions of the war and the politics frustrating agriculture influenced a sharp fall of the quantitative and qualitative rates of theproduction of ‘Pienocentras’ companies. ‘Pienocentras’ became an instrument of political repression and also aimed at preparing a basis for the transition of farmers to the Stalinist model of agricultural co-operation, i.e. general collectivisation of farms.
