Abstract: In the article are analysed the rural landscape of the southern part of Lithuania as well as its use. It was defined that the landscape in this part of Lithuania has changed significantly during years. The reasons and tendencies of this change are discussed in the article. The demand for land consolidation as well as the reasons for the unexploitation of deserted lands are analysed as well. One of the reasons for the rise of deserted lands is the defects of land reclamation systems. Wet, starting to bog up soils are a big obstacle for their proper use. Another reason - low productivity soils. The third reason for the rise of deserted lands is the shortage and default of perspective farmers and agricultural companies able to lease and cultivate land
