Abstract: Recycling of plastics expensive, and the essential part of plastic wastes is incinerated or dumped, thus deteriorating the environment. The problem of utilization of plastic wastes may be eliminated, if using containers fabricated from biodegradable materials, such as starch-, peat-, silt- or cellulose-based components. The mechanical properties of starch, sludge, polyvinyl alcohol based composites for fabricating planting containers are studied using computerized microtensile system calibrated with laser speckle pattern interferometer
