Abstract: The lubricants are used to reduce the wear and the friction between the moving mechanical parts. Special additives to the lubricants improve their tribological properties. In the study the Mossbauer spectroscopy was applied to nanosuspensions which were used as lubricants and which had iron or iron oxide nanoparticles in the oils. Mossbauer spectroscopy was used to investigate the chemical state of iron in suspensions and the changes during tribological tests. The nanosuspensions were made by adding iron or iron oxide nanoparticles which were obtained by different methods - chemical and laser cutting
