Straipsnyje rašoma apie seniau statytų pastatų atitvarų šiltinimo svarbą, šilumos nuostolius pastatuose, šiltinimo efektyvumą. Remiantis kitų šalių patirtimi, analizuojama šiaudų ryšulių ir kitokių vietinių medžiagų panaudojimo seniau statytiems pastatams šiltinti galimybė ir techniniai sprendimai. Be to, nurodoma lokio pastatų šiltinimo nauda ne tik ekonominiu, bet ir ekologiniu bei estetiniu požiūriais.
The partitions in the buildings, built in soviet times, are distinguished by their high thermal conductivity and do not correspond to modern standards. Much fuel is consumed while heating such old buildings, and it raises economical and ecological problems. The additional insulation of partitions should be grounded on economical calculations. It was defined that it is very effective to insulate partitions having low thermal resistance, i.e. with the increase of thermal resistance from 1 to 2 m2-K/W, heat waste decreases by 50 per cent, and with the increase of thermal resistance from 1 to 3 m2-K/W, heat waste decreases by 67 per cent. Other countries' experience shows that pressed straw, the fibre of reed mats, flax, hemp and timber, sheep's wool can be successfully used for building insulation. Production of such materials is distinguished by very low energy input. Significant benefits can be achieved by insulating buildings: improved quality of life, economical benefits, decreased environment pollution, renovated buildings are more attractive and the country is less dependent upon imported energy and raw material sources.
