The formation of the system of green terraces is a complex process requiring much time. In order to systematically form trees and other green plants it is very important to examine the purpose and functions of planned green terraces as well as to determine the role that trees and other green plants will play not only in the general system of the composition of green terraces, but in their separate parts as well. Ecological conditions, such as climate and microclimate in the vicinity, soils, their humidity, environment pollution etc. should be evaluated too. Kaunas City is characteristic for its rather large green areas. They cover 65% of the total territory. There are 13 parks covering approx. 1000 ha as well as 639 ha of other green areas in the city. The significance of trees and other green plants to the city's enterprises is enormous and miscellaneous. Trees and other green plants improve the city's microclimate, protect from various negative factors and psychologically positively influence people. Trees and other green plants create aesthetical environment in the city, connect buildings and facilities together with urbanised or natural landscapeen
