Abstract: Lithuania entering into the European Union has opened new perspectives for rural development. The movement of rural communities is steadily growing. Their number and activities are rapidly increasing. Both Lithuanian and European Union render support to rural communities with resources. This study analyses the influence of rural communities on the Lithuanian countryside life quality, formulates tasks for rural communities and offer means for their implementation on the basis of judicial documents, scientific publications and official statistics. The analysis of the situation allows us to conclude that rural communities play an ever increasing role in the improvement of the countryside life quality
