Abstract: Lithuania's accesion to European Union in 2004 significantly accelerated and intensified processes of migration, what resulted in the unprecedented measures of emigration from Lithuania. The negative effects of social, demographic and qualitative change in the current migration trends have brought the Lithuanian authorities to the need to develop new strategies for migration policy and, above all, a new model of relations with the diaspora. In 2011 the program of "Global Lithuania", was adopted seeking to ensure the ties with Homeland and the preservation of national identity among immigrants, while encouraging them to engage in domestic affairs
