Abstract: The subject of the article is narratives about dreams. The aim is to analyze the relationship between individuality and tradition by means of linking the dream images and their meanings. Both narratives about dreams that have come true and those that have not fulfilled yet are investigated. Upon analyzing the material, it turned out that there are two ways for the meaning of dreams to be elucidated. The first way is to make use of the oral dream interpretations functioning in the traditional culture, or simply to refer to a dream-book. The second possibility is to connect the dream images with some events, expected to come true or already fulfilled, on the basis of one’s personal experience. The most important thing in elucidation of the night visions is to identify the dream images with specific mythological implications recognized by a certain traditional cultural environment. Upon making an individual interpretation of the dream, intuition and / or personal experience are used to some extent on which dream images are related to certain events, still foreseen or already come true
