The article deals with the influence of modern culture on Kaunas and its suburbs between the two World Wars. The object of this article is the family of Professor Tadas Ivanauskas. The phenomena of modern culture are discussed in relation to this family. The work is based on archival literature of Tadas Ivanauskas Museum in Obelynė and field investigation material gathered by the author in Kaunas in the period of 2001-2002. The main exploration methods used are: historical comparative method, a partly structured interview and interview of well-informed informants. In reporting the results of this summary, it could be said that the phenomena of modern culture from West and East Europe spread for economical, political and cultural reasons. The phenomena of modern culture spread through intellectuals and social institutions in Kaunas, its suburbs and even the whole Lithuania.
