During the Nazi occupation of Uzmenune in Lithuania, which practically coincided with the Diocese of Vilkaviskis area, the Catholic Church's activities were restricted. Although hierarcai made some statements, condemning the former Soviet regime, they realized that the new regime was little different from the former. The Catholic Church did not have an opportunity to organize a wider pastoral and social activities. The clergy were not opposing the Jewish genocide and colonization of Lithuania very clearly and openly, but there were also open protests as a priest Michael Krupavicius signed memorandum together with other two persons. Priests and church-goers resented Nazism, rescued Jews. During the German occupation in Vilkaviskis diocese there were any priests collaborators. During the Nazi-time the Catholic Church did not have sufficient operating conditions.
