The aim of this article - execute the review of empirical research, intended for the problem of current account deficit (CAD) effect on economic growth, reaching to evaluate the main branches of these researches, low evaluated aspects, time-period and country groups, main included variable groups. The evaluated empirical researches can be grouped in three groups – static regression models of large and persistent CAD effect on economic growth, panel regression models of CAD adjustment effect on economic growth and static or dynamic researches of the interaction between CAD (as possible determinant) and financial crises. Identified, that there is a variation between the results of CAD effect on economic growth in reviewed researches, and some researchers confirm that it can be explained only by grouping countries into specific groups. One part of analyzed researches, do not include the basic economic growth variables and so giving much more importance to CAD variables and the effect on economic growth. The effect and there direction to economic growth differs among the variables included next to CAD (domestic demand, economic openness, world economic growth and the variables of CAD riskiness).
