Sexual activity of adolescents leads to many medical, social and cultural problems; moreover, historical analysis demonstrates that sexual permissiveness has hindered the development of concrete civilizations in the past and continues to exercise important influence in the present. Various sexual risks prevention programs usually address only three major consequences of risky sexual behavior: teenage pregnancy, AIDS and other STD’s. However, famous psychoanalysts and educators point to the negative influence of early sexual activity for the psychological and ethical maturation of adolescents. Sexual attraction is a physical good which becomes a moral good only when it is personalized and transformed into such through love and responsibility. Sexuality is the manifestation of human generativity which can express itself, depending on the level of the personalization of sexual attraction, either as mature sexuality or as uncivilized biological power untouched by love and responsibility. The current cultural environment, because of its high degree of erotization and the emphases on impersonal sex, hinders the spread of the culture of sexual self-control. Renunciation of early sexual activity not only protects from the psychic traumatization because of the inevitable short-term character of adolescent sexual relations, but also ensures the freedom for the development of both, personal identity and academical/ spiritual formation, which provides an important bases for the successful future life of the young adult. Ability for sexual abstinence is a sign of psychological health; it is the inevitable condition for the successful integration between passion and love. The power of the will is an important tool for self-control of the maturing individual; this power, however, can be helped to develop by the integral formation of personality, and not just by sexual education.
