The aim of the study – to examine the relationship between self-efficacy and perceived social support in people with physical disabilities. Materials and methods. The study included 138 people with physical disability, aged 18–60. The respondents were asked to fill in anonymous questionnaire forms. Two questionnaires were used. Self-efficacy was assessed using a Self-Efficacy scale (Sherer, Maddux, Mercandante, Prentice- Dunn, Jacobs, Rogers, 1982) which contains two subscales measuring general self-efficacy and social self-efficacy. Perceived social support was assessed with a Social Support Behaviors scale, measuring five modes of social support (emotional support, socializing support, financial assistance, practical assistance and advice/guidance) of family and friends separately (Vaux, Riedel, Stewart, 1987). Results and conclusions. The results revealed that self-efficacy is related to perceived social support. Individuals who perceived themselves as having higher social support from family and friends reported higher scores of general and social self-efficacy compared to individuals who perceived lower social support. Higher general self-efficacy is related to higher scores of socializing support, greater financial support and higher scores of practical assistance from family. No modes of social support from friends were significant to general self efficacy. Higher social self-efficacy is related to higher scores of all five modes of social support from family and friends seperatelyen
