Abstract: The Way of the Cross is one of the objects of Catholic theology, history of religion, ethnology, art criticism and ethnomusicology. There are only few studies concerning the spread or location of the Ways of the Cross in Lithuania, their origin and development as a complicated phenomenon of ritual liturgical and ethnic culture interaction. The article chronologically describes the area of the development or location of the Ways of the Cross in Lithuania. There are given the new questions concerning the origin of this Catholic ethnic cultural heritage and analyzed their typological questions. There is also surveyed the semantics of the Way of the Cross in Lithuania and in the world. Basing himself on the new data the author gives the spread or location area of the Ways of the Cross in Lithuania and its origin and development and also explains the reasons of the origins of new Ways of the Cross and gives their typology. The investigation enables us to draw some conclusions: 1. There were recorded ten Ways of the Cross in Lithuania. According to the tradition there were nine Ways of the Cross. However today there are only six of them and one is the Way of the Cross of our times. 2. The typology of the Ways of the Cross in Lithuania: there are three of the Dominican, Franciscan and Calvary type each. One is modern Franciscan Way of the Cross. 3. The Ways of the Cross appeared in the 17th century. The area of the spread or location of the Ways of the Cross was predetermined by the spiritual and cultural activities of their creators and the geopolitical events that influenced the country, and this substantiates the assumption given at the beginning of the work
