Abstract: The quality of the validation process is determined by the preparation of the personnel to perform the functions of validation and learning mentoring. In many cases an evaluator is the person who does most communicating with a candidate. Therefore, a successful validation procedure will be influenced not only by a candidate’s preparation to participate in validation but also an evaluator’s ability to smoothly organize all stages of the evaluation process. Since validation of competencies is a relatively new field, a course for evaluators and learning mentors has been created. It includes theory as well as practice, terminology, and a selection of methods and instruments for validation of adult competencies. The aim of this article is to analyze the preparation of university community members/evaluators to validate non-formally and informally acquired competencies by organizing and conducting training for evaluators according to a prepared curriculum. The study data have revealed that, as a result of training, evaluators improved necessary competencies and are better prepared for the validation process. Nevertheless, having in mind that evaluators’ task is to guarantee the quality of content, they must be observed and their training must be constantly improved
