After the occupation by the Soviet Union in 1940 of the prosperous Republic of Lithuania, it was not only the economic structure of the country that was brought to ruin, but its cultural life was also paralyzed. Therefore, in the first years of liberation (1988-1990) the Lithuanian people lived in a never-ending Easter. The triumph of freedom of conscience was marked by thousands of crosses erected at roadsides, houses and memorable places. Together with huge crowds, the clergy participated, gave talks and prayed at meetings for the support of independence, and it became usual to have solemn Mass at all important national feasts.[...].
