A skull at the foot of Jesus' cross is an inseparable part of the representation of the event of Golgotha in Cristian iconography. A skull is missing only in the images of the Crucifixion of the Western Church of the last and the present centuries. Nevertheless, the traditional image of the Crucifixion is still widely known today. Widely known, but incomprehensible. The aim of the present irticle is to reveal the multi-functional role of Adam's grave in the Cristian scheme of salvation. The following tasks are raised to archieve this aim: while referring to the testimonies of partistic authors, to reveal the real meaning of the relation of the Crucifixion site with the image of the skull, and to present accompanying theological conclusions.[...]
