Abstract
The article offers an analysis of 137 suffixed and mixed derivation pattern verbs. Usually in standard Lithuanian these words have a twofold stress – one on the root and the other on the suffix. This research attempts to explain which variant is given preference and more acceptable to the language users. There were 46 students participating in the research. They are students of the Lithuanian language at Kaunas Vytautas Magnus University. The research resulted in establishing that the verbs with the suffixes -(i)oti, -(i)uoti, -(i)auti are often stressed on the suffix, while those with the sufix -inti tend to be stressed on the root.
