Adaptation of service-learning in Lithuania : a hermeneutic perspective

The aim of the article is to demonstrate pro- blems of transfer and adaptation of service-learning�method in Lithuania by linking them with develop- ment of understanding of this method. Development of understanding is explicated by hermeneutic peda- gogy. Therefore, the article pursues to demonstrate re- lations between hermeneutics and pedagogy, interac- tions between hermeneutics and education practice, in relation with changes in understanding. At Šiauliai University, service-learning was adapted and const- rued as Cooperative Studies (kooperuotos studijos). Similar creative interpretations of the method by transferring innovative project are applied in other countries as well. Such a transfer is related to additio- nal aspects of explication, interpretation, application, correction and discussion. Hermeneutic pedagogy discusses relations between circles of interpretation and practical activity. In essence it corresponded to development of at Šiauliai University, Šiauliai and Panevėžys Colleges as well.
