In 2012 the Research group of eukaryotic cell bioenergetics (a part of Molecular Bioenergetics cluster) was performing investigations in these three main topics: 1) the search of tumour cell sensitivity factors to hyperthermia; 2) the effect of citrate syntase inhibition on mice muscle and liver mitochondrial functions; 3) the stimulation of plant metabolism and fungicidic protection by application of plasma and radiofrequence radiation on seeds and seedlings. The group has great experience in the research of hyperthermia effects on different biological organization levels: organelles, cells, and tissues. The valuable information was obtained concerning the dependence of hyperthermia effect on gender and tissues. Also the hypothesis of Ca2+ amount being important in tumour cell thermoresistance was proved. The control experiments were accomplished in the innovative study of citrate syntase inhibition as a stategy of obesity reduction. The group investigated the mitochondrial respiratory rate by oxidazing different substrates. In cooperation with Belarus scientists the group has started in Lithuania nowel ingineering stimulation of plant metabolism and fungicidic protection by application of plasma and radiofrequence radiation on seeds and seedlings.
