In the last few years the world’s Lithuanian diaspora is markedly changing: it is becoming increasingly mobile, transnational, dividing into interest groups and organizations, and seeking out new forms of activity and new goals. Thus the task of preparing a new diaspora strategy, one embracing the public, private, and civic sectors in a sufficiently complex way, is becoming ever more pressing. Now, as the government of the Republic of Lithuania is reviewing its own policy on its relations with the diaspora, this is perhaps a most opportune time to implement some necessary corrections and to raise cooperation with the Lithuanian diaspora to a new level of quality. Getting diverse interest and professional groups within the diaspora to participate in joint projects with Lithuania and developing specialized diaspora social networks throughout the world should become one of the priorities of Lithuanian policy toward the diaspora. A superior example of such a network would be the World Lithuanian Economic Forum.
