The work of Algimantas Kezys is unique in the context of Lithuanian photography by virtue of its themes, the variety of its means of expression, and its technologies. Kezys is a constantly changing and searching author whose series of photographs exhibit constant movement and changes of outlook that affect his creative development. He is an artist who solves existential and ontological problems of being human, of eternity and temporality through man’s relationship to the surrounding world. Of special value in his work are his urbanistic cycles: Kezys photographs Chica go’s skyscrapers; he seeks to reveal the whole in a detail, to highlight the fragment through a contrast with urbanistic and natural motifs. In these photographs the artist reflects on man’s place in the world, the meaning of life through aestheticized city motifs and fragments. Lately Kezys has started to use computer technologies that offer an opportunity to experiment with unexpected parallels. In the cycles of the past decade the author achieves surprising effects by doubling images and providing photographics with some color accents.
