Straipsnyje analizuojamas Vilnijos lietuvių visuomenininko, pedagogo, publicisto, kunigo Kristupo Čibiro (1888 12 14 – 1942 03 23) šviečiamasis palikimas, aktualizuojama jo svarba. Nagrinėjama, kaip kun. K. Čibiras suvokė visuomenės švietimo svarbą, atskleidžiamos jo pedagoginės idėjos. Darbe panaudoti skelbti atsiminimai ir tyrėjų tekstai, nagrinėjami Lietuvos mokslų akademijos Vrublevskių bibliotekos Rankraščių skyriuje saugomi kun. K. Čibiro rankraštiniai šaltiniai, jo skelbti tekstai, kurie istoriografijoje specialiai neanalizuoti. Pateikti duomenys liudija ne tik apie svarų pedagoginį jo indėlį siekiant išsaugoti lietuvių mokyklas, kultūros įstaigas Vilniaus krašte, bet ir siekius plėtoti visuomenės ugdymą bei lietuvių kultūrinio tapatumo stiprinimą.
The article analyzes educational manifestation legacy of Vilnija region Lithuanian social activist, pedagogue, publicist, and priest Kristupas Čibiras (12/14/1888 – 03/23/1942), and actualizes its importance. Major attention is given to the disclosure of concepts concerning the importance of public education and pedagogical ideas. The article includes published memoirs and researchers’ texts, analysis of Rev. K. Čibiras’ manuscripts stored at the Manuscripts Department of the Wroblewski Library of the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences, and his published texts, which had not been specifically historiographically analyzed. The data reveals both Rev.K. Čibiras’ significant pedagogical contribution in an effort to preserve Lithuanian schools and cultural institutions in the Vilnius Region, as well as his attempt to develop public education and strengthen Lithuanian cultural identity. As revealed by Rev. K. Čibiras’ abstracts, notes and other manuscripts, textbooks prepared by him, and published periodicals analyzed in the article, great attention was given to the development of Lithuanian cultural identity and Christian morality of young personality. Rev. K. Čibiras stressed the significance of sociality in students’ overall education and society’s responsibility for the youth educational values, as well as the significance of interaction between school and local community and the importance of practical use of knowledge. Rev. K. Čibiras emphasized the significance of all society including cultural education: he consistently sought to transform reading rooms opened in the Vilnius Region into the Lithuanian press reading and distribution centers, as well as into the local Lithuanian community culture and education oases, and combine their activities with interests and opportunities of local residents. He also attempted to establish a connection between the perception of the history and folk heritage of the Vilnius Region and overall context of Lithuanian culture. The value basis of the priest’s, pedagogue’s and publicist’s concepts was closely related to the strengthening of Lithuania’s statehood and consolidation of its territorial and national integrity. While stressing the strengthening of Lithuanian identity in Vilnius Region occupied by Poland at the time, in his educational and publicistic works Rev. K. Čibiras also promoted respectful attitude towards distinct and characteristic properties of all nations, as well as welcomed cultural ties. The significance of a strong, morally responsible individual and society for the formation of individuality emphasized by Rev. K. Čibiras is related to the educational spirituality analyzed in the modern academic literature from both theoretical and applied perspective, and his legacy in the field of students’ value education have not lost its importance in the education of these days.
