The article focuses on the poetry of the young Lithuanian poetess Neringa Abrutytė. The author of three books of poetry, she herself declares to be the best contemporary Lithuanian poet. The evalution of her poetry by literary critics is quite different. Some of them rank Abrutytė as a really new voice in Lithuanian poetry, some treat her as nearly a dilettante. In the context of theoretical investigations of poetry the article dicusses the understanding of poetry and the image of poet represented in the lyrics of Abrutytė. Supported by the acts of autolegitimation and autocanonization, this poetry seems to continue the tradition of avant-garde. Simulating the “sincere”, “innocent”, “teenage” writing Abrutyte’s poetry represents the narcistic tendency of postmodern culture.
