Abstract: Vienas iš menkai tyrinėtų šio laikotarpio klausimų būtų lietuviškos aprangos raidos istorija. Aprangos istorijos temos tyrimai priskiriami keliems mokslas – istorijai, kultūrai bei dailei.
In this paper we will trace only a little part of the costume history that is the dressmaking courses. In West Europe people started to develop new attitude of mind to this handicraft in the middle of XX century. Only in this period a new attitude towards the dressmaking as a form of art was made Various handicraft courses had to warrant professional teaching process in Lithuania. The foundation of trade schools and courses started to develop when the Department of Special Learning was established in 1926. In 1929 the law of the handicraft teaching was legislated and in 1932 the rules which regulated the activity of trade schools and courses were set. In the third decade of XX century a few trade schools and dressmaking courses functioned in Kaunas. They worked during all independence period. In the fourth decade there was an evident boom of establishing dressmaking courses. The courses were established for two learning levels, one for those who wanted to take up the beginner’s level and the other for those who already had some experience of dressmaking handicraft. The first students at trade schools were given mostly elementary knowledge while professional tailors were looking for new methods
