Jiexin, Chen |
Relevance of the research. Chorus is a form of music, but also a comprehensive art, it is comprised form solfeggio, harmony, musical, vocal performances and other tightly intertwined together musical subjects. Moreover, the chorus has long been used as an elegant art form, and has been spread so far, setting off waves of choral upsurge in various regions of the world. So, today's choral education became one of the main focus in many teaching procedures in Normal Universities. Choral conduction class has become a required course for many colleges and universities, and is a popular subject with students who would love to become singers in today's educational career. Chorus is a form of singing. Students can express themselves through music, increase their self-confidence, enhance cohesion, but also participation in the choral singing can also promote self-development of imagination and aesthetic aspects. These are scholars who think so: Abramauskienė & Kirliauskienė (2016); Phuthego (1998); Monks (2003); Radford (2001); Xiaohua (2003) and others. Moreover, chorus not only has an important role in universities, but also promotes social harmony and helps to build a harmonious society which has positive effect on students: Abramauskienė & Kirliauskienė (2016); Yubin (2008); Varvarigou & Maria (2009); Durrant and Himonides (1998); Durrant (2006); Kennedy (2002), etc. These scholars believe that the choral community also has a positive influence. Therefore, university chorus, not only can promote the vigorous development of the music education, but also affects the harmonious society. In preparation of music teachers in the university singing in the chorus is compulsory. Training music teachers at the university, where choral singing is one of the study subjects in the study programme, enhancement of motivation and encouragement of creative self-expression is integrated into various instrumental playing, movement, dance, theatre, fine arts, design and other elements of performance in the chorus. (Abramauskienė & Kirliauskienė, 2016). However, compared with the chorus of relatively developed countries, China's development has just recently started and there is no complete system of music education. In Chinese normal university choral education system and personnel training methods, compared to Lithuanian universities, many problems exist. Comparing with the Lithuanian choral conducting courses, from the survey conducted in Chinese colleges and universities, was found out that there are many problems like the lack of professional choral conductors, piano accompanists, conductor’s teaching materials, practical activities and exchanges. The scholars Rui (2011), Jingjing (2010), Xinrong (2012), Yu (2008) and Bo (2008) also believe that these are important factors which are restricting China's Choral education. So, to evoke the development of Chinese choral conducting in the teaching of the universities, we need to change teaching methods (Wenwen, 2010). I hope this paper can reveal some of the problems in today's Chinese normal university choral teaching setting, and to be able to reform and improve its shortcomings for curriculum, teaching methods and other aspects as soon as possible, pay more attention to the chorus development and personnel training education to promote more vigorous development of China's choral education.
