Abstract
Pranas Čepėnas (1899-1980) is a Lithuanian histo-rian who had a long record of important contributions to the fields of culture and science. The following periods can be distinguished in P. Čepėnas' life: 1) his life and activities in Lithuania from 1899 to 1944, especially in the years 1940-1944, when, having obtained academic qualifications, he worked al Vilnius university first as a junior assis:ant and later as a senior assistant; 2) the years 1944 to 1949 cover his life in Germany (he worked al a secondary school and the Baltic university), where he was awarded professor's name and became a board member of both the Professors' society and the Emigrants' community; 3) the years 1949-1980 comprise his life in the USA, Chicago, as his permanent residence for many years, and Worcester where he spent the last years of his life. On November 24, 1998, the remains of P. Čepėnas, his wife Albina and their daughter Ina Čepėnaitė-Užgirienė were reburied in the cemetery of Petrašiūnai in Kaunas. [...]
