The focus of the article is one icon – the image of “The Kneeling Jesus” (second half of the 17th century) from the Seda church in Lithuania, which originally was held in a procession altar. The analysis of this unique image of rare iconography in Lithuania gradually revealed a history of the cult, which is also typical and characteristic of the entire Baroque period. Referring to the example of this image, Baroque altarpieces are discussed in various aspects: their creation after graphic copies, the relation of processional images and altarpieces, the role of personal initiative in spreading the cult of the image, the fame of images for their graces, the covering of images in casing, the sacrificing of votives, the spread of painted and graphic copies, and the relation of altarpieces with the liturgical life of the church and non-liturgical religious practices. The second part of this article is divided for analysis of popular Lithuanian folk xylographies „Jesus between Arma Christi“ (19th century) and their relation with the image of „The Kneeling Jesus” from Seda.
