V. Kapsukas and Z. Angarietis were the most enthusiastic leaders and proponents of the communist movement. They fanatically believed in the doctrine of cosmopolitan communism, which became the leading one in their struggle against Lithuanian statehood, culture, as well as the Christian religion. In their abundant publications they argued that nations are only temporary historical values. As, in their opinion, nations appeared as a result of economic and political factors, the same factors might predetermine their extinction. This process would be reinforced by the global victory of communism. As a result, international proletarian culture would come into existence with one world language and no national boundaries. Being deeply convinced of these ideas, Z. Angarietis and V. Kapsukas strongly opposed the Lithuanian national movement.
