Numerous outstanding scientists, public and cultural activists of Lithuania became almost obliterated from memory during the period of Soviet rule, for the reference to persons representing other than Soviet ideology was forbidden. This article attempts at filling in some part of the gap which still exists in Lithuanian historiography. Dr. A. Damušis biography, included in the article, is presented to the Lithuanian public for the first time. This scientific activities are classified into five fields of research. One of the aspects of his activities is dealt with in detail. It is his struggle for Lithuania's liberty which started with the Ateitininkai movement and paved his road to the ranks of leadership of the uprising of 1941 and later, through the German prisons, led him to the United States... In 1997 Adolfas Damušis, academician of the Lithuanian Catholic Academy of Science, professor of Detroit University, Honoured Doctor of VMU, a distinguished chemist, as research scientist and inventor, returned to Lithuania with Lithuania with his wife Jadvyga, a teacher, so that at the age of ninety - he celebrated his ninetieth birthday in 1998 - he still might make his contribution to the prosperity of restored independent Lithuania. The article was guided by the personal archives of Jadvyga and Adolfas Damušis, the articles published in the emigrant press and the professor's memories personally narrated to the author. The author also su-ceeded in correcting the errors made in the book "Hochverrat: "The case of "the treachery of the state" in 1944-1945" (Hochverrat: "Valstybės išdavimo" byla 1944-1945") by Landsbergis-Žemkalnis, "The national uprising in 1941 to restore Lithuania's independence". (Tautos sukilimas 1941 m. Lietuvos nepriklausomybei atstatyti) by Pilypas Narutis and articles on the June uprising of 1941. However, in accordance with Dr. A. Damušis wish these errors are not given through analysis and the parallels are placed at the footnotes. Dr. A. Damušis has revised the presented material and has given his approval of the article.
